The Moment the Hostile Invaders Arrived through their multidimensional time portal. The camping trip I was on seemed to be the most serene place on Earth. No panic, no running in the forest. Just me, the fire, and the interdimensional communicator I used to call them...

The inspiration for this piece was really from a dream I once had. I had been in 5th grade at the time of the dream, however to this day, it still sticks with me. I arose from the night terror and immediately grabbed the only bible in the house, clutching it as I trembled, struggling to keep my eyes closed. I recalled how the skies had opened, revealing a greenish blue hue, and from every point of focus, hundreds of shreds of debris rained down upon mankind. The dream, as I laid there reckoning the imagery my unconsciousness had shown, was so vivid that I awoken in belief the world truly was ending, a feeling I never had forgotten.

The students and I ran from the school down the main road that takes me down to the side roads to my house. Now, they say a dream only lasts for a few seconds, that the time that passes in that realm isn't the same as the way time passes while you're awake, but this seemed to last hours. I came upon an old tavern centered in town that was at the corner of an intersection. As I walked upon the vision, my older brother squealed into the scene in a car wreck. The vehicle that had caused the incident, had drove over his pickup truck and ramped 20 feet into the air, similar to an extreme sports stunt, and it was at that moment that I finally got a look at his face.

He threw the door open, ran to me and said, "The world is ending" and no sooner did he finish those words when what felt like, a sonic boom blast over our heads. It sent the clouds into ripples, shooting them far from the eyes of my brother and I, revealing the full nature of the invasion.

The boom was triggered by the drone ships entering our atmosphere. They came in formation, like birds in migration, schools of fish, ants in a colony. One moved and the others followed in almost synchronistic fashion, As if they were all controlled in one instance but somehow distinctly unique to the front man. As they entered, the cloaking shield they surrounded our planet in collapsed, plummeting into the crust in a catastrophic hail of death. I look up, close my eyes, and awaken to the deathlike darkness of night.
